A Message from the Dean Dear Prospective Student, On behalf of the Chancellor, Board of Directors, and faculty, it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you the Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy. Oak Brook College was established on the premise that legal education in America is in need of significant reform. Notwithstanding the well-intentioned efforts of various legal reformers, there are still many valid complaints coming from consumers of legal services, as well as the bar and bench. Oak Brook College introduces innovative distance-education methods of learning that provide a fresh alternative to the paradigm followed by conventional law schools. In addition to changes in the method of education, an emphasis is placed upon the character qualities that are necessary to improve the legal system. To that end, we seek to bring change to legal education. There will no doubt be opposition from an established way of doing things that by definition resists movement and innovation. Nonetheless, we at Oak Brook College recognize that in law, as in life, there are times for reformation. This [Web site] will answer most of your questions about Oak Brook College. As you review [this site], you will see that Oak Brook College is not for everyone. Unless you are willing to go against the flow, to explore new ideas and methods of learning, and to pour your best effort into your studies and your work, you may want to look elsewhere. But if you view the practice of law as a calling, not simply a career, and if you wish to learn practical skills along with learning from texts, then Oak Brook College may be right for you. A further question you should contemplate is whether you are disciplined enough for this program. Independent distance-learning requires uniquely committed people who are self-motivated and willing to make the decision to learn without the prompting of a professor or mentor. As you will note, the program requires at least three hours of study a day, six days a week. It is not an easy curriculum, and we could not honestly represent it as such. It is, for the right person, a wise investment. I invite you to take a look at Oak Brook College and then take a look at yourself to determine whether Oak Brook College is right for you.
